Studio Kilns

Mississippi Mud Studio owns several kilns to accomodate a number of options for completing associate work

Electric Kilns

The studio has two top loading electric kilns capable of firing member work up to cone 6. Both kilns have electronic controls to manage the firing profile members choose

Bisque firings:  Associate Members may fire kilns once they are checked out on how to use them. Often, members combine to fill the kilns to maximize energy consumption and individual expense. Bisque firings fees are set at $35.00 per firing (2008)

Glaze Firings:  Associate members may fire kilns once they are checked out on how to use them. Glaze firing fees are set at $45.00 per firing (2008)

Member Check Out Process includes knowledge of how to properly post and stack kilns for each kind of firing and knowledge of firing methods and familiarity of how to use controllers.

Members are responsible for care and cleaning of kilns, shelves and posts before and after each firing.

Raku Kilns

The studio has several Raku kilns which utilize Propane. Raku firings can be arranged as special workshops

High Fire

Members will be invited to participate in firings of the large wood fired kilns owned by several associates.

Associates may also schedule a workshop or participate as guests firing the wood/salt kiln. Both kilns are located off site on a farm between Galena IL. and Dubuque IA.
